Talanoa Forum: Moana Rising

Artistic Director: Yuki Kihara

Talanoa Forum: Moana Rising (10/11/12 October 2023) extends the themes of Yuki Kihara's Paradise Camp exhibition by bringing together 26 artists, curators, scholars, activists, and policymakers from Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, Sāmoa, Tahiti, and Venice to talanoa.

The forum provides audiences with a unique opportunity for networking and will foster an environment for inspiring new Pacific-centred partnerships, projects, and pathways. Each day will feature morning provocations, performances by Cindy of Sāmoa, inspiring moderators guiding that day's program, powerful and critical panel discussions– plus an afternoon at the Chau Chak Wing Museum. Attendance is free of charge.

Talanoa Forum: Moana Rising is supported by:

•Powerhouse Museum
•Centre of Visual Art at the University of Melbourne
•Creative New Zealand
•Istituto Italiano di Cultura Sydney
•University of Sydney (Chau Chak Wing Museum, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Power Institute for Art & Visual Culture, and Sydney Environment Institute)

The first Talanoa Forum, Swimming Against the Tide, was hosted in 2022 led by artist  and artistic director Yuki Kihara on the occasion of her exhibition Paradise Camp, curated by Natalie King presented at the Aotearoa New Zealand Pavilion in the Arsenale as part of the 59th Venice Biennale.
